A Resorts World Sentosa dealer has been sentenced to one year and three weeks in prison after admitting to a brazen scheme that siphoned more than S$55,000 (US$42,572) from the casino floor.

Prosecutors said Oumnakil Thanakorn, 35, a Thai national employed since late 2022, repeatedly misappropriated chips while dealing baccarat, roulette, and blackjack. Using sleight of hand, Thanakorn slipped house-won chips into his hand under cover of a piece of paper, concealing them in his pants before passing them to two accomplices to cash out for a commission.

The operation allegedly ran undetected between May and July 2024, despite Resorts World’s extensive surveillance. Review of footage later revealed at least 29 instances of theft. Two women, Buengloy Ananyaporn and Techawattanasakul Warattharin, were also charged after being caught on video exchanging S$32,500 and S$4,500 worth of illicit chips, respectively.

During a raid on Thanakorn’s home, police recovered remaining casino chips. He admitted sending much of the stolen money to Thailand to help his family pay debts. Facing a potential 25-year sentence, Thanakorn received a reduced term after pleading guilty to three charges, including criminal breach of trust. He is expected to be deported following his prison term.

This case adds to a string of dealer scandals in Singapore’s tightly regulated casino industry. Last year, a Marina Bay Sands roulette dealer and a gambler were each jailed 28 weeks for conspiring to manipulate outcomes, stealing just S$3,545.

Resorts World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands remain the only two licensed casino operators in Singapore.
